West Ham joined by Brentford in pursuit of Wigan Athletic ace

Wigan Athletic defender Charlie Hughes is on the radar of Brentford, as detailed in a report by i News.

Wigan Athletic’s centre-back is attracting interest from the Premier League after an impressive season.

Hughes, 20, has made 44 appearances in all competitions in this campaign, 36 of which have come in League One, and he has scored three goals from the back.

Brentford are keen on landing him, whilst their top flight rivals West Ham also hold a ‘firm interest’, as per i News.

Hughes is under contract at Wigan until June 2028 meaning they are under no pressure to cash in on him this summer.

However, their resolve could be tested in an offer came in from a top flight club like Brentford or West Ham as it may be hard for them to stand in the player’s way of a big move.

The prospect was on the books of the academies at Manchester City and Liverpool before joining the Latics in 2017.

He has since risen up through the ranks of his current club and was handed his first professional deal in 2021.

Hughes made his senior debut in January 2022 in an EFL Trophy clash against Arsenal Under-21’s and hasn’t looked back since.

He has become one of their most prized assets and Brentford and West Ham could see him as one for the future.
